In cooperation with the Chair of Soil Science at the Technical University of Munich, the Professorship Big Geospatial Data Management hosted a hackathon as part of the project SoilCarbonHack.

We encouraged everyone, independent of their background, to participate and gathered soil-driven and data-driven minds to work together on microscale NanoSIMS images and improve our understanding of soil carbon storage.

Microscale image analysis to gain novel insights into carbon storage mechanisms is a complex task, and to find new approaches and solutions, a diverse set of skills is needed.

We gave necessary background knowledge during several keynotes and hands-on tutorials by Dr. C Höschen, Dr. S Schweizer, Prof. Dr. M Werner, Yahan Hu, and Maximilian Zollner.

During the event, we built teams that include people from diverse backgrounds and had new ideas, engaging discussions, and everyone could benefit from each others field knowledge during this interdisciplinary meeting.

Stay tuned for upcoming events and papers from SoilCarbonHack!
